During the spring flood, when the Brethren village was completely covered, Grandfather Mazay set out along the shore in his boat, searching for mutated hares. Having collected the required number, he sewed hats from them. This continued every spring, until one chilly day, the hares bit Mazay, capsized the boat, and dragged him to the bottom, where mermen and verliokas set upon him. Made from the fur of anomalous animals, it offers enhanced protection against mutant attacks.
